Narrowing in on Dining

we considered a variety of industries to apply all of our ideas such shopping, self care, and parks but decided on dining for these reasons

  • Occurs in a third space and facilitates social interaction

  • Low commitment and accessible

  • Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Suspendisse tincidunt sagittis eros.

1. Enter and Check in

The pre payment structure eliminates the low point of paying during the experience keeping users immersed

2. Recieve Pen

The server will hand the party a pen encoded with RFID technology. This pen will contain party information such as party size and dietary restrictions. Users will feel more satisfied receiving an artifact after checking in. The tangible aspect of the artifact provides users with physical interaction to the narrative. The artifact is on theme enhancing the immersion of the experience.

3. View Menus

Seasonal menus to make each experience new and unique.
The swiveling large menus users to compare different menus with a clear unobstructed view. Influenced by out art gallery testing these menus supported users favorite aspect of the experience, understanding and comparing the correlations between the menus and paintings

4. Explore Gallery

users are then prompted to explore the three galleries at their own pace to gain a better understanding of the dining rooms inside. During this exploration Hors d’Oeuvres complimentary to the paintings will be served to increase the immersion of the paintings.

The addition of Hors d'Oeuvres was a result of the wait time testing which showed that the presence of gustatory distraction decreased perceived wait time.

5. Course Selection

Once the party is ready to select their course, they will sign their name on the leather leather-bound notebook.

The notebook won't recognize the handwriting but the RFID chip in the pen allows the device to recognize the party no matter what it is written. The writing serves to create a physical interaction between user and environment heightening immersion.

The UI of the menu was also a result of the Art Gallery testing. typeface, hierarchy, and placement were iterated upon to best communicate the desired interaction.

6. Entering the Painting

After signing, the painting will open to reveal the themed dining room within.

Using a combination of a lead screw and a rack and pinion mechanism, the wall below the painting lowers to create a threshold for the user to pass.

7. Dining Room

Inside the themed dining room, the party will be seated. Food will be ready to be served immediately and the course will roll out in timed intervals creating a curated experience.
